Reminders

Cell Phones - make sure you have coverage for the US Virgin Islands. One local company is Cellular One. My SC Alltel phone works fine on St. Croix. Even if you have nationwide long distance and roaming, you need to call some carriers and activate the Virgin Islands part. The area code is 340.

If any one has any problems, my phone number is 843-834-8427. Jane's cell phone is 843-729-3705. My St. Croix house number is 340-773-7643.

Bring your passport. If you don't have one, bring a birth certificate and photo i.d. If you don't, you won't be able to leave.

St. Croix time is Atlantic Standard Time, which means St. Croix is an hour ahead of SC. For those temporally challenged just remember, if it is 2 pm in Summerville, it is 3 pm in St. Croix. . .but it's 5 o'clock somewhere.

Summerville is 33 degrees north latitude and St. Croix is 17.5 degrees. The sun is hotter on St. Croix so wear sunscreen.

Alcohol is duty free and tax free so it costs about 50-60% of Summerville prices. If you order a rum and coke, a fruit punch, or any other mixed drink, remember that the mixer is the expensive ingredient so they load up on the alcohol. Each adult can bring back 6 bottles of duty-free and tax-free alcohol if one of the bottles is locally made, such as Cruzan Rum.
